Near the former west gate of Ahlen's town centre, this art museum occupies a renovated villa from the late 19th century, joined in 1996 by a modern extension. The mix of old and new architecture frames modern and contemporary art. Several changing exhibitions run each year, alongside the museum's own collection, built up since 2006 and now around 1,500 works by more than 200 artists.
