Kunst- und Naturalienkammer der Franckeschen Stiftungen

Halle (Saale), Sachsen-Anhalt

A baroque cabinet of curiosities with 18 richly decorated display cabinets, holding about 3,000 natural specimens, curiosities and folk-culture items arranged according to Linnaeus's system of nature. It was set up in the early 18th century as a teaching collection and is regarded as the oldest bourgeois museum room in Germany. The painted crowns of the cabinets, which refer to what is inside, are worth a look, and one cabinet is devoted to the languages of the world.
