Kollegiatstift, später Augustinerchorherrenstift St. Maria, Klosterneuburg, Österreich

Klosterneuburg, Niederösterreich

High above the Danube, on the edge of Vienna, stands this Augustinian canons' abbey, founded in the early 12th century by Margrave Leopold III. The complex blends medieval, Baroque and historicist architecture. Well-preserved remains of the old convent church of St Magdalena survive, and a chapel of 1318 holds the tomb of Saint Leopold. The abbey has an art collection and runs one of Austria's oldest wine estates.
