Jagdschloss Grunewald

Berlin, Berlin

On the shore of the Grunewaldsee stands Berlin's oldest surviving palace, built in 1542/43 as a hunting lodge for Elector Joachim II in the early Renaissance style. It was called Zum grünen Wald, "to the green forest", and gave the whole forest its name. Under King Frederick I it was given its Baroque look between 1705 and 1708.
