Hermesvilla

Wien, Wien

Set inside the Lainzer Tiergarten, a former hunting ground on the edge of the city, this small palace was built by Emperor Franz Joseph for Empress Elisabeth as her castle of dreams. Karl von Hasenauer built it between 1882 and 1886. In the garden stands the white marble statue of Hermes that gave the villa its name. Today the Wien Museum uses it for cultural-history exhibitions.
