Heinse-Haus

Ilmenau, Thüringen

The poet and art theorist Johann Jacob Wilhelm Heinse was born in this house in Langewiesen, one of the oldest buildings in the village. One exhibition follows his life and work, while further rooms cover the Thermos company, the Oskar Schlegelmilch porcelain factory, a hundred years of thermometer and laboratory glassware making, and Wilhelm Höpflinger, an inventor of ball bearings. A gallery hosts changing shows, and the building also holds a visitor information point, a library and the local archive.
