Heimatmuseum Bernau bei Berlin — Steintor

Bernau bei Berlin, Brandenburg

Bernau's local history museum is housed in the Steintor, the last of the town's three gates still standing, at the eastern end of Berliner Straße. Short, steep steps and a cramped, winding passage lead up inside. The low lower wehrgang, lined with arrow slits, leads to a small cell where condemned prisoners spent their final days, while the upper one displays historical weapons. The museum opened in 1882 and calls itself the world's first Hussite museum.
