Haus der Stadtgeschichte

Donauwörth, Bayern

The museum sits in the Rieder Tor, a listed gate of 1811 that was badly damaged in the Second World War. It follows Donauwörth's history from Mangoldstein castle and Holy Cross monastery through the market charter of 1030 and the coat of arms granted in 1530 to the bombing of April 1945. Displays cover the town fortifications, justice with an executioner's sword and neck fiddle, and coins and emergency money. A rooftop studio shows work by local artists, including a late Gothic panel painting of Saint Ursula.
