Granitabbaumuseum Königshainer Berge

Königshain, Sachsen

Granite was quarried in the Königshain hills for more than 130 years, and this museum shows how hard the work was. In a former welfare and smithy building you follow the stone from quarry to paving, through exhibits and eyewitness accounts. One section explains the geology of the granite. Outside stand three stonemasons' huts showing how paving-stone cutters worked. Stone from here went into the Görlitz Neisse Viaduct and the New Lighthouse at Cape Arkona.
