Glashüttenmuseum des Erzgebirges

Neuhausen/Erzgeb., Sachsen

This museum follows glassmaking in the Ore Mountains, a craft going back to the area's settlement around 1200. It is housed in the former Fronfeste, or manorial jail, of Purschenstein Castle. You will see a glassworks from the time of Georgius Agricola, a workshop room, and works by glassmakers from the Saxon and Bohemian sides of the mountains, including the Heidelbach glassworks of Neuhausen. The history of the town and the castle is covered too, and glassblowers give demonstrations.
