Inside Schloss Wilhelmshöhe hangs a collection of old masters centred on 17th-century Flemish and Dutch painting. Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Rubens, van Dyck and Jordaens each have their own rooms; you can see Rembrandt's Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph, Rubens' Pan and Syrinx and Hals' The Merry Drinker. Italian, Spanish and French paintings, including works by Titian and Murillo, add range. The core of the collection goes back to Landgrave William VIII.
