Gedenkstätte Zuchthaus Brandenburg-Görden

Brandenburg an der Havel, Brandenburg

The memorial sits within the grounds of the Brandenburg-Görden prison and traces its history, from the penal reforms of the Weimar years through the Nazi era to the postwar period. A execution site built in 1940 saw more than 2,000 men beheaded by guillotine before the war ended. After 1945 the prison held mainly Nazi perpetrators convicted by East German courts.
