Gedenkstätte Steinhof

Wien, Wien

This memorial stands on the grounds of today's Otto Wagner Hospital and recalls the crimes of Nazi medicine. After 1938 the former Am Steinhof asylum became Vienna's centre of killing medicine, and from 1940 to 1945 its Am Spiegelgrund children's ward cost the lives of around 800 children and young people. An exhibition documents this history and the fate of the victims.
