Gedenkstätte Berlin-Hohenschönhausen

Berlin, Berlin

On the grounds of the former central remand prison of East Germany's Stasi, this memorial recounts political persecution under the communist dictatorship. Political prisoners were held here, among them almost all well-known East German dissidents. Because evidence was destroyed after 1989, what is known about daily life in the prison rests mainly on eyewitness accounts and documents from other East German bodies.
