Freilichtmuseum Schwerin-Mueß

Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

On the south shore of Lake Schwerin, the old fishing and farming village of Mueß now serves as an open-air museum. Across about 5.5 hectares you can visit seventeen buildings and sites, including a smallholder's farmstead with barn from just after the Thirty Years' War, shepherds' cottages, a village forge, an 1888 schoolhouse and an exhibition on inland fishing. It shows rural life in Mecklenburg from the 17th to the early 20th century, and old crop plants and fruit varieties are still grown in its gardens.
