Flößermuseum

Lechbruck am See, Bayern

Lechbruck is known as a rafting village, and this museum shows what that meant. For centuries rafters floated timber, stone and building materials down the Lech as far as the Augsburg area, and until 1819 some rafts even travelled on to Belgrade. Numerous exhibits and a carefully made display give a picture of a raftsman's life. It all sits in a listed rafter's house from the mid-17th century, which once stood right on the riverbank; the Lech now runs about 100 metres to the east.
