Europejskie Centrum Solidarności

powiat gdański, pomorskie

Standing on the square beside the former Gdańsk Shipyard, where workers went on strike in 1980, this museum tells the story of Solidarity and of opposition movements across communist Eastern Europe. The permanent exhibition, Roads to Freedom, is the main reason to come. The building, opened in 2014, has rust-coloured walls meant to recall the hulls of ships built at the yard. A library is housed inside, and outdoor exhibitions are held around the centre.
