Energiefabrik Knappenrode

Hoyerswerda, Sachsen

The disused briquette factory at Knappenrode, southeast of Hoyerswerda, tells the story of Lusatian brown coal. Between 1918 and 1993 about 67 million tonnes of briquettes were pressed here. The listed site is part of the Saxon Industrial Museum and an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The company village built around the works is part of the story too.
