Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum Carolinensiel

Wittmund, Niedersachsen

In the harbour village of Carolinensiel, this museum shows how people lived and worked in the 19th-century sluice harbours of the Wadden Sea coast. The displays are spread over listed buildings by the museum harbour: the Groot Hus of 1840 on the trading port, the Captain's House of 1803 on seafaring families, and the Old Rectory of around 1800 on the coast and dikes of the Harlebucht. Subjects include storm surges, dike building, shipbuilding and fishing.
