Deutsches Damast- und Frottiermuseum

Großschönau, Sachsen

Großschönau was known for damask and terry cloth, and this museum shows how they were made: on working historic looms and in a demonstration workshop that follows the process from yarn to finished piece. Rarities include a reconstructed damask hand loom of 1835 and Germany's last working terry hand loom. A treasury of damasks displays fabrics from the 17th to 19th centuries, and about 6,000 pattern drawings and samples round out the collection.
