Chrustenická šachta

Chrustenice, Středočeský kraj

Iron ore was dug here until 1965, in one of the larger mines of the Barrandian region, and the old workings are now open to visitors. The mine reached down through 84 underground levels to a depth of 426 metres. Its two inclined haulage shafts, sloped at 14 degrees and begun in 1921, are the feature to look out for. The ore was mostly siderite and chamosite.
