Burghof (Soest)

Soest, Nordrhein-Westfalen

A patrician house of green sandstone, built in Renaissance style in 1559–60, holds Soest's museum of local history. Its historic banqueting hall shows something of the wealth of the merchant families who lived here. Right next door stands the Romanesque House of 1180, a tower-like dwelling preserved almost in its original state and said to be the oldest surviving residence between the Rhine and the Weser.
