Ausstellung Europäische Glasmalerei und Krippen

Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg

Inside the old St. Laurentius church in Sulgen, a nativity collection takes Christmas around the world. Albert Fehrenbacher's Völkerkrippe shows the birth of Jesus as seen from 22 countries, some pieces in miniature, others in box scenes a metre wide. Scenes from the Old Testament complete the 51 works by the Schramberg crib maker, who first began building nativity scenes as a prisoner of war in Russia. He meant them as a call for peace and understanding between peoples. At Christmas time, Josef Grimm's Sulgen crib trail is added.
