Archiv und Museum Landau

Landau in der Pfalz, Rheinland-Pfalz

Landau's past as a Vauban fortress is the heart of this town museum, and its centrepiece is a city model dating from 1740. Further rooms show how townspeople and farmers once lived, along with the tools of coopers and winegrowers, and paintings by local artists such as Heinrich Jakob Fried and Friedrich Ferdinand Koch. The museum occupies the former railway post office beside the main station, a long neo-Baroque building from 1897. The city archive under the same roof holds documents on local history and Landau newspapers going back to 1792.
