Alte Saline

Bad Reichenhall, Bayern

Salt was made here for almost a century: from 1844 to 1929 this works turned brine into Reichenhall salt. The buildings, designed by Joseph Daniel Ohlmüller and Friedrich von Schenk, are now a protected industrial monument. Visitors can see how a large saltworks was built and run, and remains of the older works that stood on the site lie preserved beneath the ground.
