A complex of historic buildings in Halle, begun by the theologian August Hermann Francke as a school and social project. Thousands of people still learn, work and research here, and the grounds hold schools alongside archives, libraries and museums. The buildings are seen as an example of social and educational architecture and are on Germany's proposal list for UNESCO World Heritage.
