Christian-Daniel-Rauch-Geburtshaus

Sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch was born here in 1777, the son of a princely footman and valet, in a modest servants' house. The small complex in former hop gardens consists of the dwelling and an outbuilding. Inside are nineteenth-century portraits, drawings showing how his sculptures took shape, tools and sample works, and the diaries of his Italian journeys of 1804 and 1829. Keepsakes and medals show how the artist was celebrated.
