Wieland-Museum (Biberach)

Biberach an der Riß, Baden-Württemberg

The poet Christoph Martin Wieland grew up in Biberach, and this museum follows his life and work. It is housed in the garden house whose upper floor he rented while working as a chancery administrator from 1766 to 1769, and a permanent exhibition there dates from 2009. The attached archive holds more than 15,500 books, journals and offprints and over 1,000 manuscripts, among them more than 350 letters in Wieland's own hand. Georg Oswald May's 1779 portrait of Wieland is part of the collection.
