Housed in the former fortress building of a prison that closed in 1990, this museum looks at how punishment and imprisonment have worked over more than 300 years, from the 18th century to today. Around 5,000 items fill the displays. It is described as the first museum in the German-speaking world devoted entirely to the subject, and the setting is part of the experience.
