Steffenshammer

A well-preserved iron hammer works in northern Remscheid, close to the Wuppertal boundary, on the Gelpe stream. The forging and grinding workshop was built in 1746 and was in full use until 1928. A large overshot water wheel drives the forge hammer, and a smaller wheel powers the grindstone and bellows; both are still used for demonstrations.
