This museum occupies the Gothic castle in Písek and the neighbouring malthouse, entered through the town hall gateway from Velké náměstí. Its displays cover the history and nature of the Písek region, and the exhibition of live fish is a favourite. It reopened in 1993 after a full reconstruction and won the European Museum of the Year award in 1996.
