Muzeum Ziemi Chełmskiej w Chełmie

Chełm, lubelskie

The museum occupies four buildings in Chełm, on Lubelska and św. Mikołaja streets, among them the former Piarist College, a group of nineteenth-century townhouses and a former Orthodox church of St Nicholas. Local museum collecting began in 1882, when icons, paintings, sculptures, books and liturgical objects from churches of the former Uniate diocese were gathered. It is named after Wiktor Ambroziewicz, who founded a regional museum here after the First World War.
