The museum occupies the Skarbczyk, one of the buildings of the royal castle in Szydłów. Its displays cover the geology of the area, the prehistory of settlement around the town, and Szydłów's history up to the Second World War, including guild products and militaria. A torture chamber holds reconstructions of old instruments. It has been open since 1961.
