Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben-Museum

Wolfsburg, Niedersachsen

Housed in the castle at Fallersleben, once a duchess's widow's residence, this museum is devoted to the poet and scholar August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben, who was born in the town in 1798. The permanent exhibition follows his life and work against the backdrop of the years from 1798 to 1874, when poetry and the push for democracy in Germany were closely entwined. At its core lies a collection of his manuscripts, acquired in 1928 from his son's estate. It also considers what his political ideas mean for Germany and Europe today.
