Dialysemuseum Fürth

Fürth, Bayern

The history of blood purification and dialysis, from antiquity to the present, is the subject here. A reproduction of a urine glass from 1550 greets you at the entrance. Inside, the exhibition introduces Thomas Graham, who coined the term dialysis in 1854, and shows replicas of early artificial kidneys, including the 1913 apparatus used in animal experiments and the one Georg Haas used on a human patient in Giessen in 1924. The museum is in the Jakob-Henle-Haus near the hospital.
