The old customs house on the Elbe in Hitzacker holds a museum about the history of the town. It looks back to the 17th and 18th centuries, to figures such as the scholar Bernhard Varenius and the mulberry plantation on the Weinberg. The museum courtyard hosts talks, and a sofa raft belongs to the house.
