Torgelow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Beside the Uecker river, a short way south of Torgelow, a reconstructed early medieval Slavic village stands on open meadow. Log, post and wattle-walled houses of the 9th and 10th centuries have been rebuilt at full size from archaeological findings, enclosed by a timber palisade, with a landing stage on the river for historic ships. This open-air museum portrays the Ukrani, a Slavic tribe of the Elbe region, and aims to show their daily life as authentically as possible through living history. A visitor centre and a high medieval building complex in Torgelow belong to it too.
