Torgau. Residenz der Renaissance und Reformation

Torgau, Sachsen

Torgau's Hartenfels Castle is the setting for an exhibition on life at the Saxon electoral court. After 1547 the town lost its role as main residence to Dresden but stayed the most important secondary seat, hosting princely weddings, court festivals, political gatherings and diets. The display runs from the mid-16th century to the end of the Thirty Years' War and draws on the Dresden Armoury, with additions from the Green Vault and the Museum of Decorative Arts. One focus is Elector Johann Georg I, whose second wedding took place here in 1607.
