The Wall Museum

Berlin, Berlin

This private museum in Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, on Mühlenstraße, traces the story of the Berlin Wall and the decades of division. It opened in 2016. Escape stories are part of the picture: three brothers fled East Germany by air mattress, by winch over the wall and by ultralight aircraft, and another escaped by hot-air balloon. Visitors are welcomed by an address from Mikhail Gorbachev.
