Slawenburg Raddusch

Vetschau/Spreewald, Brandenburg

This near-exact reconstruction of a Slavic refuge fort stands near Raddusch in Lower Lusatia. The original ring-shaped rampart dates from around 880, built of timber and earth with a ditch in front, and gave local people shelter. It was one of about 40 such forts in the region.
