Seegrotte Hinterbrühl
Hinterbrühl, Niederösterreich
A former gypsum mine about 15 km south of Vienna, the Seegrotte holds an underground lake of roughly 6,200 square metres, said to be the largest in Europe and fed by seven springs. Visitors walk through the old tunnels and cross the lake by boat. In the Second World War the mine was used to build Heinkel jet fighters, a chapter that is part of the tour's story.
