Schloss Salder

Salzgitter, Niedersachsen

Salzgitter's town museum fills this Weser Renaissance manor house in the district of Salder, built in 1608 from limestone on marshy ground and set on wooden piles. The displays cover geology, prehistory and early history, and the story of the town and its surrounding villages from the Baroque era to the 20th century. A section called From Ore to Steel shows models, among them one of the Gebrüder Schreitel iron foundry. Entry is free.
