Salzbergwerk Hallein

Hallein, Salzburg

On the Dürrnberg above Hallein, visitors travel down into a salt mine worked since Celtic times, more than 2,600 years ago. Hardly any salt is mined today, and the mine runs as a show mine. It is known for the long wooden slides that carry you down between levels. The workings run under the border into Bavaria.
