Paläontologisches Museum Nierstein

Nierstein, Rheinland-Pfalz

About 2,000 fossils from different geological periods are displayed in Nierstein's Old Town Hall on the market square. The museum was founded by the amateur palaeontologist Arnulf Stapf, who as a boy went fishing on the Rhine, found traces of Rhine gold, and ended up collecting shells and snails instead. Carboniferous plant fossils and Oligocene finds were part of what fired his passion for collecting.
