Naturalienkabinett Waldenburg

Waldenburg, Sachsen

A nineteenth-century cabinet of natural curiosities forms the core of this universal museum, founded in 1840. Its roughly 116,000 items include minerals, fossils, fish, reptiles, shells, birds, mammals and herbaria, plus astronomical and physical instruments, Baroque decorative arts and a small ethnological section. It grew out of the collection of the princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg.
