Muzeum – Miejsce Pamięci w Bełżcu

Bełżec, lubelskie

The museum stands on the grounds of a German Nazi extermination camp, where around 450,000 Jews from Poland and elsewhere in Europe were killed in 1942–1943. For nearly twenty years after the war the site was left unmarked, and a first monument in 1963 did not even mention the Jewish victims. The present memorial, a monument-cemetery with a museum exhibition, opened in 2004. It is a place for quiet reflection and remembrance.
