Museum SchPIRA

Speyer, Rheinland-Pfalz

This compact museum of about 80 square metres gathers archaeological finds from Speyer's medieval Jewish community. Among them are an arch fragment from the 12th century, gravestones from the 14th century and a double-arched window dating from around 1110/20. Some pieces are long-term loans from the Historical Museum of the Palatinate. Schpira is the old Hebrew name for Speyer, one of the three SchUM cities, and the display complements the neighbouring Judenhof with its synagogue ruins, ritual bath and cemetery.
