Museum Schloß Augustusburg
Brühl, Nordrhein-Westfalen
Augustusburg Palace in Brühl is considered the cradle of Rococo in Germany and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Clemens August had it built between 1725 and 1768 on the ruins of a medieval moated castle. Its heart is the grand staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann, crowned by a ceiling fresco by Carlo Carlone. Visitors can also see the lavish halls and the Great State Apartment on guided tours.
