Impressionist, Expressionist and Surrealist paintings hang here alongside applied art, graphics and photography. The collection began in Hagen in 1902 and came together in Essen after 1922. The building is a David Chipperfield design, and the German Poster Museum, with around 340,000 posters, is part of the museum too.
