Museum Berlin-Karlshorst

Berlin, Berlin

This former officers' mess of a Wehrmacht engineer school is where the German armed forces' surrender was ratified on 8 May 1945, ending the war in Europe. The hall where the signing took place is the heart of the visit. The permanent exhibition covers Germany's war of annihilation against the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1945 and the wider German-Soviet relationship. The complex, built from 1936, served as the Red Army's headquarters after the Battle of Berlin.
